Life Jacket Strap for Girls

Savannah asks: “Do I really need the crotch strap done up on my life jacket? Mom always does it up but I don’t need it.”

The strap on your life jacket is meant to keep you safe and it could save your life. So, mom is right wanting you to use it.

When we are in the water the life jacket wants to float and it can easily come up over our head. Once it does, it doesn’t keep us safe in the water. It can come off entirely, or it can just let our head sit under water instead of keeping us floating properly.

When you get into your life jacket, do up the other buckles first. The last buckle to attach is the strap between your legs. It will be loose to start, mom needs to pull the end of the strap once its done up. It will tighten up and hold you in the life jacket.

When the strap is properly snug you will feel a bit of pressure between your legs. It shouldn’t be uncomfortable but you will notice the snug feeling as you walk and play in the water. When you float in the water the tugging between your legs will be a bit stronger.

The strap works best when you are wearing a swimsuit. Shorts will be less comfy with the strap done up.

Savannah remember to stay strapped into the life jacket until you are done going in the water. Once there is no risk of falling in the life jacket can come off.

Have a great, safe time at the beach!
